This course delves into the contemporary landscape where humanitarian affairs and military operations intersect, a departure from the historical separation of the past four decades. With virtually every current humanitarian context featuring a component of military operations, the need for a nuanced understanding of the global dynamics in these scenarios becomes crucial. Drawing insights from recent experiences in regions like Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, and Israel/Palestine, the course aims to break down traditional silos. By fostering a common language, it equips both humanitarians and military service members to collaboratively pursue the shared objective of providing support to individuals affected by war, conflict, and disaster.
